Sherry Gordon --TOP WEB BUSINESS/SUCCESS BUILDERS-- Hello once again! -- This is Day Three of six of the e-seminar you requested... --In the first two days, we covered, of The Progression... 1.Starting with a populous, in-need, and willing-to-pay niche market that isn’t saturated by other webmarketers (and that you can enjoy) 2.A powerful, "hands-off" website (--1--) 3.Great website set-up and copywriting 4.Well-targeted keywords (--2--) --TODAY, it's on to the next four numbers in The Progression... 5.Getting links in to your site 6.Automating everything in sight 7.Adding in some (more and more?) of The Notable Extras 8.Focusing - economizing - persevering - and intensifying ---------- 5.GETTING LINKS IN -- for more traffic and better search engine placement Links in--one of those big factors in ranking for many search engines. The -raw number of links- from other websites to yours is an indicator of how "popular" your site is... which should tell how -valuable- your site is.Well, but we all know that many webmasters frantically exchange links with any old site, just to boost their -own- rankings. So now some of the SEs are also factoring in link -quality-... How to take advantage of that?Three ways... ---Concentrate on getting links from sites that are particularly -high-traffic-... ---Seek links from sites that are particularly -relevant- to your site's theme... ---And seek to be included in -popular directories that are human- edited- (most notably, Yahoo). Bulk is still part of the algorithm too, but not as important. And there's a very good reason not to seek out link -exchanges- with non-relevant sites just to add to the bulk...That just provides your site visitors with a way -out- of your site--and it's better to keep them in! ...Or to -control- the ways out, as via affiliate links. If you'll gain significantly from a link in, by all means provide a link out if you're asked. But there are other ways to get your link on someone else's site... Provide a service to the other site--that doesn't "oblige" you to give them something in return...An article for their collection. A free e-book or auto-responder course their visitors can download.Your whole site as a link, giving their visitors a valuable resource (that's what directories are all about).Your affiliate program?Maybe you'll joint venture with the other webmaster in some way...See "The Notable Extras" later on for more about these possibilities. ---------- 9.AUTOMATING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT! -- to free up your time for more business building and enjoyment of life We talked about the powerful effects of automating your web business the first day, with the "Site Build It!" webhosting (and much more) service (http://buildit.sitesell.com/granite.html). Each time-consuming element you can give over to "someone else" (without more personnel, or a "virtual assistant" who you pay as a contractor, that means "software") means more time for you to spend as you like! ...Less burnout. ...And in the end, more money. Okay, you'll recall that I'm "not a Guru"; I'm also not the most skilled computer user that ever was... I'm just adequate. So even if I know about a lot of ways to use computers to streamline a web business, I don't use them all ...yet.I tend to add them in as my stress level -demands- it, just because I avoid having to figure out too many new things at once. You could be more proactive and -keep- your stress level down! But I really -should- use macros when I type. And filter my e-mail, and otherwise organize it, into folders. And learn about the more sophisticated features of my word processing program(s). But I -do- use auto-responders, as you can see!I use Site Build It! as my webhost. And I just got a stupendous package of automation training called "How to Create the Ultimate Automated Web Business" that I want to share with you...Because truly, this has got stuff in it that could save years of our lives! Marlon Sanders begins his sales page with this sentence..."How I compete with businesses 30 times larger than mine and you can too!"That's not hype. Many of his competitors have (and spend vast sums on) over 20 employees, and their financial break-even points are high as well. He shows you how to use your PC, set up your website and e-mail software, handle customer service, selling, file organization, affiliate programs, and utilize virtual assistants, all to full advantage.I can't ethically tell you about what I've learned from someone else's for-sale material--but you can find out about it yourself at: http://www.automationsecrets.com/cgibin/t.cgi/156426. (It's not "cheap"--but there is an affiliate program you might participate in to offset the cost. ...Or just let the information pay for itself!) ---------- 7.ADDING IN SOME (more and more?) of THE NOTABLE EXTRAS -- building up the routes to your website I won't be going into the items on that list until later, but here they are again as a reminder (in no particular order)... 1.Joining affiliate programs -- and going for the easiest money 2.Your own e-zine -- to establish a relationship with your visitors, for repeated chances to sell/pre-sell, and to build your reputation and reach 3.An auto-responder course -- to establish a relationship with your visitors, and for repeated, leisurely chances to sell/ pre-sell 4.E-books -- free (viral marketing) and/or to sell 5.Starting your own affiliate program -- branding (and selling) like crazy 6.Submitting to pay-per-click search engines -- the best bang for the buck 7.Having a back-end product/s to follow up with 8.Marketing to other countries &/or in other languages 9.Being open to offline marketing avenues of all kinds 10. Joint venturing with others, both online and off The reason the ideas are in no particular order (if this isn't too obvious to say) is that each person's situation will lead to different options. For instance, some will start out -because of- affiliate programs, as I did--others will add them in later. Some will have an e-book burning to get out, while others won't come up with a rousing book topic for many months. This auto-responder course has grown out of my developing webmarketing experience, so naturally I -couldn't- have started with that. ..Start where you are. Each project you undertake from that list has the potential to significantly augment the traffic to your website.(Or to another ordering mechanism, if you take orders for something via fax, e-mail, mail, or phone as well as online.)Or perhaps to your e-zine, from which you can generate customers at a more relaxed pace. Some list items will blend with others--a joint venture can be producing an e-book -together- with someone else, as an example. And as with so many things in life, one thing often leads into another...Your e-book could -become- your affiliate program. So don't stress over doing them all--and -definitely- don't stress over doing them all -now-!Each has a learning curve. Others Who Have Gone Before can help you get efficiently through those training periods, as it were...But it still falls on your shoulders to put what you learn into action. So conserve your strength--it becomes more potent! I'll talk a little more about that in the next section...For now, see what on that list you've already done--and be thinking about another project you might try out.Which best aligns itself with where you are -now-?All in good time... ---------- 10. FOCUSING -- ECONOMIZING -- PERSEVERING -- AND INTENSIFYING As you no doubt surmise, this section is really about attitude. It's about not only how to approach those "notable extras" I mentioned, but also, I believe, how to set yourself up for succeeding in webmarketing in general. You want to start with something you can enjoy, so that you can sustain the energy that will take you to success and light other people's fires! FOCUSING... This relates back to the previous section...And this is excellent advice for -any- pursuit!:Don't try to do too many things at once. "Too many things" will be of a different nature for different people... The part-timer just doesn't have the wherewithal to work at this several hours a day.If you have more time at your disposal, you can probably handle more than one new thing at once. ...I find that it's good for me to have two or three things to switch amongst, so I don't get dazed spending too much time on one activity. Someone translating from one language into another probably can't progress as quickly as the original writer. But then, even if you have more time, original writing can take longer than necessary... You might polish more--but working with a website, polishing -can- always be done later.(And later on, I'll tell you about a writing course that can help you write, and organize what you write, -fast-, if this is of interest to you.) In any case, focusing will get you to the results faster than diversifying your efforts will.Of course, doing a lot is better than doing -nothing-!But... If you work at a number of web-traffic-generating efforts at the same time, it will take you a lot longer to get results for -any- of them than if you concentrate on one at a time. And that's a critical point--because in webmarketing, you -need- traffic to succeed! ...Be sure you're building traffic all the time. (Yes, I do tell you this from experience--I put a lot of things into motion at once, creeping along. You don't have to wait around for success like I did!) Most people would rather -start- succeeding fast than wait weeks or months for a myriad of projects to come to fruition.Start faster by focusing. ECONOMIZING... By economizing, I mean two things...Being frugal with your resources; and, when spending money, striving to not pay out more than you're likely to get back. A lot of people try to make a go of it on the web and don't make money very soon (and then give up)... then spread the word that it's really hard to make money in webmarketing. Many of those people had no good guidance, no realistic plan, not enough perseverance, etc.--but a lot of them spent money (and time) impractically, too. Staying within one's means should be an obvious axiom--but many people seem to think that it's just de rigueur to throw money at a -business- for the first couple of years. ...That's for the Big Boys (who are comfortable going bankrupt!), not for bootstrappers on the net.But bootstrappers -do- succeed in webmarketing--if they're smart. One way of being smart is to streamline whatever you can--we've already talked about that.Another way is to study the field and learn from others--you're doing that.(It's also smart to take what I and others say with a grain of salt...Make sure it makes sense to you!) Another way to be smart is to spend cannily when you spend--look ahead...Is this expenditure utterly -necessary-?If not, does it pass the test?:It has to have the fairly obvious potential to bring in more than it costs you. A sensible cash outlay may bring back something valuable other than more cash--that's fine.If it builds your site traffic significantly, you can concentrate in the next step on turning the traffic into cash in another fashion.-Laying the groundwork- for future profit is an important part of most web businesses... Just strategize to garner the most benefit you can from what time and money you put into your business.(Basically, I guess that's what I'm trying to help you do by organizing my conclusions into this e-seminar.Stay tuned!) PERSEVERING... One person isn't "the persevering type" and another not... it isn't as cut and dried as that. The will to persevere is open to everyone--we all continually make decisions as to -what- we'll bother to persevere on and what we won't. One thing I do know...If you don't persevere at webmarketing, you aren't likely to succeed at it.Too many people have made it sound too simple, perhaps--and too many people are therefore giving up too soon. Remember how I said that I spent a lot of time "putting myself through web school"?That's a phrase I picked up from John M. Carter, of the website http://www.WorkplaceMoxie.com/cgi-bin/ls/c.cgi/ponderosa_top (a really useful website, by the way, for businesspeople both online -and offline-, as well as for "real world" employees). That really "clicked" for me!--YES, -that's- what I was doing! ...And a sizable learning curve for something so information-intensive as webmarketing should just be expected. What I've found, and others have corroborated, is that all the efforts you make to develop up a website (and "extras") build to a point of serendipity...At which the synergy of -all- that you're doing begins to show its power. One thing leads to another indeed! ...But you have to still be there for the "other" things to be seen.If you don't stick with it, you won't succeed--because you'll be gone when the greater and greater effects would have taken place. If you -believe- this, you'll find persevering coming more naturally.Darn it, I'm just plumb -determined- to get what I want from this! ...You? Keep at it, and let the synergy build. INTENSIFYING... Two things here...You can intensify over what -others- are doing--and you can intensify over what -you- are doing now. Most people aren't entrepreneurs by nature or intent.Even when they set up a website, join an affiliate program, or perhaps join an MLM program--because they'd like to make more money--most people don't have what it takes to follow through. Not just perseverance and a plan, but the will to actually -do it-. Since you bothered to sign up for this e-seminar, you may well be willing to put out a little more, or a lot more, than "most people". ...And your business will show it!--if not right now, soon-ish. If you do -more- than other people are doing--and do it smart-- well, you -know- what that logically leads to...Getting ahead of the pack. What does it take to do more than others?... or than you're doing right now?Maybe a little more time each day.Maybe a little expenditure on information that will help you succeed faster. Maybe focusing means giving up a TV show or two (or three, or four, or five... surely it's the greatest time-waster mankind has ever invented!).Less daydreaming, more strategic planning? If you need to set goals for yourself, spend the time to do it. If you need to get someone to help you remember to focus on a web-related project, do that. I guess you could say that what I'm talking about is -investing in yourself-.Like a savings account, if you put a little in every so often... one day, there's a whole lot!And if you don't invest anything?--every day, you're right where you were before. Intensify--just a little at a time can make a big difference. ---------- That'll be a wrap for today. In the next day of the seminar, we'll look at the last two items in The Progression list and the first two Notable Extras... 9.Testing your results for the greatest profit potential 10. Thinking creatively, experimenting, and being ready to flex and innovate --- 1.Joining affiliate programs 2.Your own e-zine See you then!
