Print each e-mail out, pour yourself a beverage of choice, bring along a pen to jot down some ideas, and take it all to your favorite sofa.Learning a serious subject is so much easier when you're comfy.:-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Infoproduct Masters 202 by Monique Harris and Ken Evoy, M.D. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Over the next four days, we'll take an interesting and rewarding journey together. You'll learn how to create, produce and sell an infoproduct in 10 days. That's a promise, no matter what your personal resources are. There's just one catch... For it to work... you have to work it. :-) Today is the most important day.We have to pull what you know out of your brain (relax --no surgery is involved!). As explained in yesterday's e-mail, it's so easy to overlook what you've learned over your lifetime. Let's get started.... ====================================== DAY 1 -- Pull & Test a Profitable Idea ====================================== You've just arrived at the most important part of the entire course. The time you spend here will determine just how big your success will be. Yes, really. Most people fail in any business because they don't THINK enough before starting. That's three times as true for an Internet business and five times as true for what you are about to do. Here's why... If you pick the wrong concept, if you develop the wrong content, if you start down the wrong road... You'll end up at the wrong destination. ----- So let's start simple.Let's use just one of the idea-generating exercises from "Make Your Knowledge Sell!" ("MYKS!").We call this particular brainstormer... "Mining the Gold Within You" The goal of this exercise is to help you choose a topic for your infoproduct... something that you already know, love, and are passionate about. Passion makes work fun and easy. What is it that you love to talk about? Read about? A hobby? What do you do for fun and games? What special body of knowledge have you learned from your job? What do you do day after day, without even thinking about it (ex., child-rearing) -- think about what you tend to do in a typical day, and what you've learned from it. What sections of a book store or a magazine shop do you automatically gravitate toward? What kind of TV shows do you tend to like most? Movies? If you get a mental block of any kind, use this list of 64 topics, together with the exercise, as an idea igniter. As you review each one, ask yourself... "What do I know about this topic?" Free-associate and let your thoughts range. You'll come up with one great idea if you spend long enough here. -----SIDEBAR----- Don't just let your eyes breeze past the 64 topics.Stop and ask yourself the question. Otherwise, you'll just scan them and move on. -----SIDEBAR----- Here are some topics to stimulate your noggin... Advertising Aerospace Agriculture/farming Antiques and collectibles Apparel/clothing/fashion Architecture/buildings Arts & Crafts Auctions Automotive Aviation Beverages Books Chemicals Children/parenting Cleaning Communications/media Computers Construction Consulting Conventions/Trade Shows Design Disabilities Education Electronics Employment Energy Engineering Entertainment Environment Ergonomics Financial services Food Gambling Games Government Health Hobbies Home/garden/flowers/plants Hospitality/entertaining Information Jewelry Law Manufacturing Minerals Music New Age Office supplies Publishing Real Estate Religion/spirituality Research and Development Retail management Science Security Sex Software Sports Telecommunications Toys Trade Transportation Travel Video Weather Got an idea?Great! Get another... Your "first thought" may not be your best. This exercise helps you pull the best, most saleable ideas out of your brain. Write all your ideas down. And don't be afraid to mix and match them... For instance, if 'travel' is a hot topic for you *AND* you're a mom with three children in diapers, your infoproduct could be based on travel tips for families with babies.Or... If you're a woman who can fix a flat tire, without breaking a nail, or change a spark plug in 5 minutes flat, you could create an infoproduct for other women who aren't so car savvy. (Monique would love to have a copy of that one!) ----- No matter what topic you brainstorm up, you'll need to do a quick survey to determine your readers' most pressing needs/problems. First, find discussion groups within your niche.Go where potential customers congregate. Check out... ForumOne Liszt Onelist Join the most appropriate groups, and ask participants key questions to determine what's most important to them. Example... let's say you're creating a booklet to help Webmasters get better paying job assignments. You would join a group like "101 Webmasters" (an actual group at Onelist), and pose the following question... -------------------------------------- Dear colleagues, For those of you currently working as an in-house Webmaster for a company, what are the 3 most requested services your employers ask you to do? Thanks very much for your thoughts, Monique -------------------------------------- It's a direct question that's going to elicit direct answers. And these answers can be used to better focus your booklet's content. -----SIDEBAR----- Idea-Generating Exercise 5 in MYKS! has several more variations on this valuable exercise.Actually, MYKS! has six powerful brainstorming tactics. http://myks.sitesell.com -----SIDEBAR----- You'll use answers from discussion groups and forums to start the outline (part of tomorrow's e-mail) for the booklet. Once you collect 10 or more responses, you'll have a good idea of what's hot and what's not.Remember... deliver what people WANT and NEED... ... NOT what appeals just to you. -- Before you give your idea a GO, review it against the MYKS! 10-point "Reality Checklist."It will determine if your idea can withstand the rigors of being exposed to the world. You must answer "yes" to at least 8 questions to proceed. Otherwise... ... next idea, please!OK, let's start... 1) Is this a topic that I really have a great deal of interest in? Will I genuinely enjoy writing about it? 2) Are there at least 10-20 places to promote/market my information product (e-zines, mailing lists, Web sites)? Does it lend itself well to search engine marketing (via gateways -- see Make Your Site SELL! for full info on traffic-building via gateways). 3) Are there at least 5 people that I can interview as part of the infoproduct? 4) Have I identified at least 3-5 pressing problems that my readers are currently facing? 5) Can I find at least 100,000 prospects through online and offline opt-in e-mail lists? (the more, the merrier -- check out Postmaster Direct ( http://www.postmasterdirect.com/ ) or Best Mailing Lists ( http://www.bestmailing.com/ ). 6) Have I read at least 4-5 of my competitors' information products? 7) Can I find at least 5 distinguishing factors to write about in my infoproduct, that my competitors have not focused upon? 8) Have I come up with at least 5 benefits of why my infoproduct ideas are better than my competitors'? 9) Are there at least 5 people from whom I can obtain testimonials or endorsements? 10) Have I come up with a great domain name that is both memorable and applicable to my infoproduct's content? (Check at BetterWhois.com ( http://www.betterwhois.com/ ) for availability.) And, in MYKS!, Ken outlines his most important single factor to consider, and how to be sure about it... >DO PEOPLE WANT THIS KIND OF INFORMATION? Ken adds 16 other important points, too.But we're trying to get you up and running with a simple e-booklet in 10 days, right? So let's keep running... :-) ----- Great! You've completed ACTION STEP #1... Create the right infoproduct from what you already know! One word of caution... We're at a pivotal point in your new infoproduct business. You want to rush ahead and "really start doing something," I know.But... The most important time that you spend on your entire project will be the time that you spend brainstorming and assessing your ideas! Take your time and get this part right. It will save you a lot of time and grief down the road. Why? Because you'll think up and develop the RIGHT product, instead of the wrong one! Tomorrow you'll learn how to put together an outline. Monique will even give you an actual sample, to show you how easily it can be done. See you then. -Ken and Monique ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Infoproduct Masters series is sent only to those people who have specifically requested it.It is composed of five daily e-mail courses.
