What Came First... Shoes or Feet?

Think you know the answer to this one?

The reason I brought this up is simple. Shoes came about because of a need that already existed. Again... The product came about because of a need that already existed.

Find people who want something first and then find or create a product for them instead of what some marketers do. In the past two weeks I've seen at least 15 marketers who have created products and are looking for people to sell them to.

That's very backwards.

Look... marketing is already hard enough as it is. Why make it any more difficult? The most successful products were created in response to a want or need that already existed.

If you're one of those 15 people I just mentioned... Listen Up!

The main reason most businesses fail is because they think that everyone is their potential customer. This is simply not the case. What turns one person on will completely turn off another. You cannot be all things to all people. You have to narrow your focus.

Anyone who thinks that everyone will love their newest product is in for a rough ride. I'll say it again... "You have to narrow your focus". Concentrating on a specific group of people allows you advertise more effectively because you'll be reaching "Legitimate" prospects. Trying to sell to any and everyone is not only annoying to those that don't care about your products, but it also takes up valuable time that you could have used to reach your real potential customers.

The thing is... the products usually aren't to blame. What's wrong is How a lot of marketers go about finding their target market. Most marketers believe that if you advertise to lots of people and get lots of traffic that you're guaranteed to make a TON of sales. This is completely false.

The formula for making sales comes down to six simple words... "Sell What People Want To Buy".

You've got to know what they want so you can offer it in an exciting, unique way. When you know what people want and can show them that you can deliver what they want, you will find that many people will go out of their way to do business with you! Exactly how do you do that? Read on...

Sell Your Product To A Market That Already Exists!

You don't even need any background in selling to a specific market because there are always people in that market who are already established to help you sell your product. For example... you bought the rights to an information product that has to do with Weight Loss. You already know that there's a large market of people who want to lose weight, but you don't know how to reach them.

Well, you don't have to reach them directly. What you can do is search: http://www.dogpile.com for marketers who are already selling to the "I Wanna Lose Weight Market" and let them do the selling for you in exchange for a good percentage of the profits. You can find someone who is known and respected in the weight loss industry to endorse your product for you or someone who is already successfully selling to the market you want to reach.

Don't Reinvent the Wheel. Instead Of Trying To Find People To Buy Your Product, Find People Who Want A Certain Type Of Product First!

You have to find where your customers hang-out. Millions of people subscribe to Hundreds Of Thousands of eZines (online newsletters) to get a constant supply of the information they want.

Many newsletter publishers build highly targeted lists of people interested in very particular subjects. These publishers have already done the work for you in terms of bringing together a large number of people interested in a particular area.

How this benefits you. Remember, you need to narrow your focus and only concentrate on the people most likely to want what you have to sell and eZines/Newsletters allow you to do this easily.

If you're selling information on Health, Making Money, Creating Web Sites, or Direct Marketing etc. the best prospects are people who have already bought a product similar to yours in the last month or two. This is especially true in the health and fitness industry. Haven't you noticed how almost all of the "Ab Machines" are slightly different?

Manufacturers know that when a consumer buys one machine or gadget they'll also buy others because even though the other machines basically do the same thing, they do it in a different way.

People want more than One Way to do things.

Here are a few resources you can use for, get ready... here it comes...

Research:

It's important that you don't get caught up in the number of subscribers an eZine has. It's more important that the subscribers they do have are very targeted. Subscribe to the eZines you want to advertise in to get a feel of exactly what kind of information their interested in and the types of ads that are accepted.

The bottom line is that publishers publish information that is interesting to their readers... Period. They don't pay subscribers to stay on their list. Their subscribers Want to stay because of the information. Pay attention to what your target market likes.

Forums: http://www.forumone.com

Pay attention to what people constantly ask questions about. When you see the same topic come up over and over again ask some questions yourself. How much would they be willing to pay for what they're looking for... what related items would they also be interested in... etc. Ask your potential future customers exactly what they want.

By finding out what people want, then putting yourself in a position to give it to them and by Showing them you can deliver, People Will Practically Line Up to Buy From You.
